Our Story
SEQUOIA GOLD is an Oakland based hospitality operations and cocktail consulting company created by Alex Maynard and Susan Eggett. Through Sequoia Gold they strive to empower their clients and partners by operating under a philosophy of: community not competition. They are proud to empower hospitality professionals to create dynamic beverage programs that create safe and memorable imbibing experiences.
Alex and Susan were born in and raised by Oakland, California. They are what you get when you mix summer afternoons at the Coliseum with evening hikes in the redwoods. Years later they then began working in Oakland bars and restaurants only a few blocks from each other. Their first joint project was in early 2020 creating the bar program for Sobre Mesa - Chef Nelson German of Alamar’s stunning Afro-Latino Supper Club.

ALEX MAYNARD
Alex’s career in hospitality began at a very early age and soon found him honing his craft with inspirational mentors at bars in New York, Miami and San Diego. Most recently as co-owner and co-bar manager of Starline Social Club it was important for Alex to create something for the Oakland community. Through his leadership the bar program at Starline was built upon being accessible, versatile, creative and fun - where every guest feels at home.
SUSAN EGGETT
Susan found her way to bartending after early experiences in higher education. An extended stay in Puerto Rico introduced her to the wonderful world of rum and the beauty of an Old Fashioned. Through initiatives like Oakland Cocktail Week she has been able to merge her love of the spirits industry with programming that educates and brings our community together. She was part of the opening team mixing up tropical noir vibes at Last Rites in San Francisco.
